A100 List Gold House | Patrick Chun

Patrick is the Founding and Managing Partner of Juxtapose, a New York based investment firm that partners with experienced entrepreneur operators to build industry-transforming ventures from the ground up. He started Juxtapose in 2015 with the mission of founding the world’s pre-eminent firm building category-defining technology businesses. Last year Juxtapose closed its second fund – the largest vehicle run by a firm exclusively dedicated to inception-oriented investing.

Under Patrick’s leadership, Juxtapose has taken a countercultural approach to the more common venture capital model, namely by: spending years on a concept and creating very few things, all with the goal of achieving venture-like outcomes without venture-like risk. The inaugural fund has an envious track record: every venture to date has successfully raised a Series B or beyond, and the fund is currently on track for a potential fund-wide 50% unicorn hit rate.

Patrick’s pursuit of systematic early-stage company creation spans nearly two decades, and he is one of the world’s most experienced leaders at the inception stage of venture- and private-equity backed businesses, having helped build or shape over 20 businesses in his career (including several that have gone public). Before starting Juxtapose, Patrick was involved at the principal / partner level at several of the world’s best formation-oriented venture firms, including Thrive Capital, Accretive, and Bain Capital Ventures. Earlier in his career, Patrick spent time in technology private equity at Francisco Partners, and started his career at McKinsey.

Patrick has a BA in Economics from Harvard College, an MA in Asian Economic History from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was the first Korean-American student body president. Patrick previously served as a board member of the HBS Asian American Alumni Association Board and is on their global Alumni Board.
